The consent standard — read this first

Everything in this archive is public, permanent, and reusable. So before anything is recorded or published:

  • The speaker knows the recording is public and agrees to archival use — not just to being recorded, but to the recording living on the open web, indefinitely.
  • Contributors confirm they have the right to sharewhat they send — a grandmother's recipe is hers to give, not ours to take.
  • A person can be named, be "Anonymous contributor", or withdraw — at any time, including after publication.

If any of that is unclear for what you want to share, write to us first and we will work it out together before anything is published.

What the archive needs

  • Recordings — counting, phrases, songs, stories in Kangri, Mandiyali, Kullvi, Chambeali, Kinnauri, Mahasu Pahari, or Bhoti. A phone recording in a quiet room is enough.
  • Recipes — as actually cooked at home, with the story of whose kitchen they come from.
  • Festival memories — what your village actually does, not what a tourism page says it does.
  • Corrections — from people who know better. These are contributions too, and they are credited if wanted.

How to send it

Email namaste@himachali.comwith what you have — audio files, text, photos of handwritten recipes, anything. Tell us the district, the dialect if you know it, and how you (or the speaker) want to be credited. We reply to everything.
